From the time Willem Smith-Clark was given his first drill at age two (plastic, intended for children, with the unintended consequence of wreaking havoc on his mother's furniture) he was set on a path devoted to craftsmanship. The New York and California based multi-disciplinary architect-woodworker-designer established himself through traditional methods and unlikely friendships. Professionally trained through The Cooper Union's renowned architecture school and mentored by master temple builder and Zen Buddhist priest Paul Discoe, Smith-Clark's work encompasses this dichotomy. Despite being a licensed architect, Smith-Clark is equally comfortable at the workbench. From handcrafted furniture to interior design filled with custom details, he won't be satisfied until every aspect of a project is pushing the limits of what mutual consideration between design and construction can bring. His portfolio spans a reimagined New England tavern to furniture constructed with intricate joinery, all created with the scrutinizing gaze of a foul-mouthed perfectionist.
